Have Your Cake & Eat It Too

Who says you can’t have your cake & eat it too?

I have the biggest sweet tooth, but not for cake. Sounds crazy, right? But cake design, I love it!

When we were planning our wedding, I had a vision for what I wanted for our cakes…that’s right, I said cakes. We had 3!

We visited several bakeries when we were trying to make a decision about who would make our cakes. After sampling enough cake for an army, we decided on Tinker’s Cake Shop in Lexington, and Cameron (owner) did not disappoint. From the time we visited his bakery, Cameron was magnificent! Tasting his cake even made me want more. Just watching him sketch ideas made me fall in love with his designs! I absolutely could not wait to see his masterpieces on our big day.

Our main cake was very traditional. It was a 5-tier combination of squares and circles & you can’t forget that bow! Every good southern gal loves a good bow, and I am no different.

When I talked with Cameron about what I wanted our main cake to look like, I told him I wanted it to look like my dress. I told him about our theme, Southern Charm Prep, and he immediately knew what to do.

Between each tier, Cameron piped pearls made from buttercream frosting. Each alternating tier also had pearl-like polka dots. After seeing the picture of my dress, Cameron sketched out the most beautiful bow for the center of our cake. Each tier of cake was a different flavor, including one that was gluten free.

For the topper- a monogram of course! I found this gorgeous monogram on Etsy in Chick Design Boutique. The owner was great to work with to get the perfect finishing piece to our beautiful cake!

Our second cake was our groom’s cake. It was a complete surprise to Kyle!

Cameron Tinker is a magical architect when it comes to building and designing cakes, and told me to dream up anything. I though about what Kyle really likes and shot for the stars. I told Cameron that Kyle played baseball at Centre College, like any southern boy- loves bourbon & enjoys playing golf.

And, look at this! Cameron made this amazing cake! It combined everything I had told him. A southern monogram, bourbon barrel, golf balls and a Centre baseball cap. Kyle was so surprised and absolutely loved it. This cake was a chocolate fudge flavor, one of Kyle’s favorites.

Bella Cake

Our 3rd cake was extra special! It was a Bella cake.

Bella is our sweet & loving Maltipoo. She is 6 pounds of fluff & sass and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bella was one of my gifts for graduation from Centre College, and we have been inseparable since.

When we got engaged, I knew we needed to include Bella in our special day. She became our “Ring Pup.” Taking his talents to another level, I asked Cameron if he could make us a cake that looked like Bella. Without blinking an eye, he said, “yes!”

The cake turned out better than I could have imagined, and it was a super yummy cookies & cream flavor!

Cutting the Cake

Other than making tasty & beautiful cakes, Cameron has an extra special offer for his bride & groom. He gave us a card for him to re-make the topper of our main cake to celebrate our 1st anniversary.

You know the tradition of eating the top tier of cake on your anniversary…Well, who likes frozen & stale cake? Cameron takes the thought of stale cake out of your mind to ensure even 365 days after you say “I do” that everything is perfect!
