Saying "Yes" to the Dress

What Little Girl Doesn’t Like to Play Dress Up?

As a young girl, I always played dress up, whether it was my Momma’s “big girl” high heels, clothes or even dance costumes. I dreamed of my wedding dress for years.

After competing in pageants, I knew my wedding dress would have to top any pageant dress I had ever worn. Before Momma & I went shopping, I knew one thing I wanted as part of my dress…a big bow. I wouldn’t be a southern gal without one, would I?

After searching in several bridal boutiques and not finding “the” one, we made an appointment at Twirl Boutique in Lexington. After counting down the days, our crew- my Momma, my future Mother in Law, Maid of Honor and a sweet family friend, made the trip to Clay Avenue. I was so excited, and knew this might just be the day I found “the” one.

Saying Yes to the Dress

The Twirl girls were so sweet and welcoming! After trying on dozens of dresses, I found one, that with some Sydney style tweaks would be perfect.

It was a gorgeous Hayley Paige ball gown with a strapless sweetheart neckline. I was glowing! The Twirl girls showed me a beautiful diamond belt to go along the waistline and a cathedral length veil. When I asked them about making a bow, they quickly knew what to do. They suggested ordering extra fabric and during alterations designing the bow. I loved the idea and couldn’t wait.

Dress Front

After having so many dresses over the years for pageants, I never thought I could find the one dress that made me feel like a bride. But, this one did.

Standing there with the dress on, I took a moment alone with Momma. That was it— my bridal moment. It was one of the first moments that it all felt real. Tears slowly streamed down my cheeks, and I was so happy to share that moment with my Momma.

When everyone came back in, I did it— I said “Yes” to the dress!
