Buffalo Trace Distillery

I’d Rather Be Someone’s Shot of Bourbon than Everyone’s Cup of Tea!

Kentucky is the birthplace of bourbon & produces 95% of the world’s supply. Can you believe it?

Bourbon isn’t just an alcohol to enjoy…it’s a culture & way of life. People come from all over the world to see, experience & learn all about Kentucky bourbon.

Now, y’all might say I’m not a true Kentuckian, because I’m not too fond of drinking bourbon, but I sure do love the culture of Kentucky bourbon.

Hubby & I truly embrace the Kentucky bourbon culture. We have a wall in our living room with bourbon barrel heads & a bourbon rack that stays stocked.

As part of our Kentucky love, we try to visit bourbon distilleries. For Hubby’s birthday this year, we decided to check out Buffalo Trace Distillery.

Barrel Rickhouse

Buffalo Trace is in the heart of Frankfort & offers a tour for every taste. We did the Trace Tour. As part of the Trace Tour, we watched a short video on the history of the distillery, then we were off to visit one of the rickhouses. The rickhouses are the large buildings where bourbon barrels are stored for aging. While in the rickhouse, our tour guide told us about how the barrels add flavor to the bourbon inside and the aging of bourbon in barrels.

Our next stop on the tour was Blanton’s Bottling Hall, where crew members bottle the elusive single barrel bourbon. It was so fascinating to watch the assembly line members put the bourbon in the bottles, apply the unique racing horse topped corks and package them to be sold. Blanton’s single barrel bourbon is the first of its kind. Blanton’s is highly sought after. Each bottle has a cork-topped racing horse, with a small letter. Many people try to collect all of the letters to spell Blanton’s.

The last stop on our tour was the tasting hall. Each of us had five small glasses in front of us. Those glasses included tastes of Wheatley Vodka, White Dog, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare & Bourbon Cream. Each had their own very unique taste.

Each distillery tour has its own special qualities. Hubby & I enjoy each visit, learning what gives each distillery a unique view into Kentucky, the place we call our home sweet home.
